History

This canton was established in 1914 and named after former President Francisco María Oreamuno Badilla.

Oreamuno is drained by the rivers Toro Amarillo, Blanquito, Blanco, Corinto, and Sucio. The terrain is hilly and fertile. Important crops include potatoes, vegetables and coffee.
