Llanuras de Tortuguero Conservation Area, Limón
This mostly consists of stands of vegetation on flooded soils in which the holillo palm (Raphia taedigera) is predominant. Also present are very wet moist forests where species like wrabwood (Carapa guianensis) and banak (Virola koschnyi) predominate. Together with the other protected area in the zone, it is part of the Costa Rica-Nicaragua SI-A-PAZ Project, which is one of most important ones in the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. It can be crossed by following the rivers that discharge into the Tortuguero channels.
